Ordering repeat prescriptions
To easiest ways to order your repeat prescriptions are:
- using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
- using the GP online system: SystmOnline
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also request a prescription:
- using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App). You will get a notification to say your script is being processed. Please still allow 3 to 5 working days for us to process.
- by placing your slip in the letter box in the dispensary door by the reception counter, or through our letter box if we are closed
- by post. View our address details
- by email to coggeshallsurgery@nhs.net (Please write ‘repeat request’ in the subject line)
We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone.
Collecting your prescription
You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 7 working days, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, after you have ordered it.
You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at your GP practice
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
More information can be found below in our dispensing service.
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.
If you would like to speak to someone at the GP surgery about your prescription:
- phone our dispenser between 10am and 4pm on 01376 561242
- email the practice on coggeshallsurgery@nhs.net
- visit the practice, when we are open.
If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
Dispensed medication may be collected at the surgery any time during opening hours.
The Dispenser at the surgery is available from 9:30am until 12pm for any queries.
Please allow extra time over Bank holidays.
Dispensing services at the surgery are available for all patients living more than 1 mile from a dispensing pharmacy.
Please give at least 3 working days notice for repeat prescriptions, excluding weekends and bank holidays for your request to be processed. Repeat prescriptions ordered after 2pm will not be processed until the following working day so you will need to allow 3 working days before you can collect your medication. If you are ordering repeat medication on Fridays, your prescription will not be ready until Wednesday afternoon as weekends are not counted as working days.
In an emergency (eg you have run out of your medication for any reason) you may ring the surgery or if it is out of hours you should contact NHS 111 on 111 or any pharmacy.
If you are collecting a controlled drug medication please collect your prescription in the morning if possible.
